What is a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician?
Individuals in the role of a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician will have responsibility for creating, and / or verifying and reviewing, accurate and timely financial information within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation. This role may exist in an accounting practice, a professional services company, HMRC or the accounting function of a business or other organisation.
Duties of a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician
The Professional Accountant/Tax Technician role will be performed in order to meet relevant ethical, professional and legal standards, and will utilise the individual’s knowledge of the business systems and processes, as well as standard accounting and tax practices.

What Will I Achieve?
- Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard
- AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting (Level 4)
- Functional Skills English Level 2 – (If previously not exempt)
- Functional Skills Maths Level 2 – (If previously not exempt)
Duration
An apprentice will typically take 18 – 24 months to complete the Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard
Working Hours & Salary
An apprentice will usually work between 30 – 40 hours per week and will earn a minimum of £4.15 per hour. This will vary between different employers and criteria of the apprentice.
Career Progression
Following the completion of this apprenticeship, the apprentice may be able to progress on to the Accountancy / Taxation Professional Level 7 Apprenticeship Standard, studying either CIMA, ACCA or ACA. Alternatively, the apprentice may wish to consider the Operations / Departmental Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship Standard to enhance their management skills.
