CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management & Leadership

Where can this course lead to?

There is an opportunity to expand the qualification to a higher level e.g. Level 7 Strategic Management and Leadership, as well as working towards becoming a Chartered Manager, gaining full membership of the Chartered Management Institute.


Who is it for?

CMI level 5 is designed for practising and aspiring middle managers who want to develop core management skills and advance their careers, and those aiming for Chartered Manager status. This includes professionals in roles such as operations, departmental, divisional, or specialist managers across various sectors like private, public, and third. The qualifications focus on developing personal management capabilities and competencies needed to manage teams and projects effectively.

The Diploma qualification gives you a fully comprehensive bank of the skills and knowledge required to be a manager as part of your organisation, as well as the ability to apply your learning in the context of another organisation or industry sector. This qualification is aimed at practice managers who are working at or aspiring to work at middle management level. It allows you to develop your skills and knowledge by focusing on key management areas.

What will I need?

For the CMI Level 5 Principles of Management and Leadership, there are no formal entry requirements, but you should be working or aspiring to work in a middle management role and possess good numeracy and literacy skills (Level 2).


What will I study?

The diploma requires you to complete approximately 7 modules (depending on credits of each module). 

Modules may include:

501 Principles of Management and Leadership in an Organisational Context (7 credits)
502 Principles of Developing, Managing and Leading Individuals and Teams to Achieve Success (6 credits)
509 Managing Stakeholder Relationships (4 credits)
513 Managing Projects to Achieve Results (6 credits)
514 Managing Change (5 credits)

 

 


 

 

On Campus: You benefit from fortnightly 3-hour classes with a college tutor. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

Assessment is via applied work-based assignments. This ensures you minimise time away from work and that you undertake work study which is relevant to your own organisation’s context.
