Where can this course lead to?

The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Credit Control Assistant or Purchase Ledger Clerk. If you are employed in the sector, you may wish to consider the level 2 Accounting apprenticeship

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to higher levels of the AAT Accounting Qualifications (Level 3 and then on to Level 4).


Who is it for?

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) course is an entry-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to bookkeeping principles and skills.

You may be eligibale for funding (fully funded or partially funded) so the cost to you is reduced or free. If eligible, you are required to apply for the level 2 Award in Bookkeeping first.  On successful completion, you are then able to apply for the level 2 Accouting top-up to complete the full level 2 accounting qualification.  Alternatively, we can invoice employers if they will be funding your qualification.


What will I need?

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Previous knowledge of accounting or a Level 1 Bookkeeping qualification would be advantageous but not essential. You do require a good grasp of English (working at level 1). Alternatively, if you are employed in the accounting sector, you may wish to consider the Level 2 Accounts or Finance assistant apprenticeship.  

Learners must be aged 19 or over. Those aged 16-18 can complete this qualification through an apprenticeship.


What will I study?

This qualification will prepare you for junior and entry level accounting roles. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration – covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles and using accounting software.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

You will study:

  • Introduction to bookkeeping
  • Principles of bookkeeping
  • Principles of costing
  • The business environment

 

On campus, you benefit from weekly 3-hour classes with a specialist tutor. Your tutor will provide materials and lessons, will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment, and review your self study learning. A combination of tutor-led work, group exercises and discussion encourages students to apply theory to real-life workplace situations. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

This course is assessed through a total of four computer based exams, one taken at the end of each unit.

Fees include your teaching, resources for all modules, one exam entry for each module and AAT registration fees. You are able to purchase exam re-sits. You will be liable for the AAT registration fee if you are withdrawn from the programme. Please note that refunds/deductions are not provided for those who already have AAT membership.
