What is an Assistant Accountant?

An Assistant Accountant provides support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an assistant accountant within practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation.

Duties of an Assistant Accountant

As part of the Assistant Accountants role, they will assist in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition the Assistant Accountant may find themselves involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

What Will I Achieve?

  • Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Level 3)
  • Functional Skills English Level 2 – (If previously not exempt)
  • Functional Skills Maths Level 2 – (If previously not exempt)

Duration

An apprentice will typically take 15 – 18 months to complete the Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.

Working Hours & Salary

An apprentice will usually work between 30 – 40 hours per week and will earn a minimum of £4.15 per hour. This will vary between different employers and criteria of the apprentice.

Career Progression

Following the completion of the Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard, you may be able to progress on to the Professional Accounting/Tax Technician Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard. Dependent on career ambitions, progressions in to other training such as the Team Leader Level 3, Operations/Departmental Manager Level 5 or Payroll Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship Standards are available.
