AAT Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping

Where can this course lead to?

Students completing the AAT Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping may wish to go on and complete the full L3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting (Accounting Top-up).

If you do choose to continue your studies in this way, then your achievements in the Bookkeeping qualification are carried over to the longer Accounting qualification.If you successfully complete this qualification, you can apply for AAT associate bookkeeping membership (AATQB). The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including Finance Officer, Assistant Accountant and Bookkeeper.

You will also be eligible for AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB) status, giving you the option to work as a freelance bookkeeper.


Who is it for?

The purpose of the AAT Certificate in Bookkeeping (Level 3) is to ensure that students have the advanced bookkeeping skills necessary to work in a bookkeeping role or to progress to higher level accountancy.

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) advanced level course is a mid-level bookkeeping qualification, ideal for anyone who is looking to advance their existing knowledge of accounting.

This Level 3 course is part of the Free Courses for Jobs initiative and is fully funded for eligible learners. Alternatively, you can apply for an advanced learner loan to cover the cost of studying this course. Please ask a member of college staff for more information.


What will I need?

You must have completed the AAT Certificate in Accounting (Level 2) or equivalent or have sound experience in finance.

Learners must be aged 19 or over.


What will I study?

This qualification covers a range of complex bookkeeping tasks. You will learn and master financial processes, including bookkeeping principles and concepts.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those looking to pursue bookkeeping as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

You will study:

  • Financial accounting: preparing financial statements
  • Tax processes for businesses

You will also develop business communications and lifelong learning skills, applying what you learn on the course to the wider industry context.

 

On campus, you benefit from weekly 3-hour classes with a specialist tutor. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

This course is assessed through a total of two computer-based exams, one taken at the end of each unit.

Fees include your teaching, related teaching materials and one exam entry for each module. You are required to pay for your AAT membership. You are able to purchase exam resits and books at a discounted rate. You may be eligible for partial or full funding.
