Where can this course lead to?

Following the completion of the Team Leader / Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship standard, the Apprentice may wish to progress to the Operations / Departmental Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship standard.

Who is it for?

The Level 3 Team Leader provides foundational management skills for aspiring or junior managers. It focuses on practical abilities in team management, communication, and daily operational tasks. This qualification offers a recognised credential, enhancing leadership potential and serving as a pathway to further leadership & management qualifactions.

What will I need?

5 GCSEs with maths and English at Grade 5 / C or Functional Skills Level 2 English and maths.  Good keyboarding skills are essential as well as a good knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Applicants will need to be employed in a relevant role (Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally) .

You may be responsible for leading people, managing people, building relationships, effective communicator, operational management, project management, finance compliance, self-awareness, self-management, effective decision making, takes responsibility, inclusive, agile and demonstrates professionalism..

 

What will I study?

Modules may include:

  • Principles of Management and Leadership (7 credits)
  • Managing a Team to Achieve Results (6 credits)
  • Building Stakeholder Relationships Using Effective Communication (4 credits)
  • Contributing to the Delivery of a Project (6 credits)
  • Managing Daily Activities to Achieve Results (4 credits)
  • Managing Own Personal and Professional Development (5 credits)
  • Managing Data and Information (5 credits)

 

Classroom attendance is fortnightly for your 3-hour lessons, plus additional attendance for portfolio building (approximately 2 hours every 4 weeks). 

Online: You will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons last for around 45 minutes and are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life.

Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further and learners should expect to spend around 3-4 hours studying independently online each week.

On Campus: You benefit from weekly 3-hour classes with a college tutor. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

You will be expected to complete tasks in the workplace to support your skill development and to act as evidence for your portfolio.  

Assessment is via applied work-based assignments. This ensures you minimise time away from work and that you undertake work study which is relevant to your own organisation’s context.  To complete the apprenticeship, apprentices will be expected to complete a portfolio which will comprise a range of evidence produced in the work-place to show that the apprentice has met the knowledge, skills and behaviours detailed in the standard. In addiotn, they are required to deliver a presentation to examine your evidence and the learner journey in more detail.
